School nurses are vital partners in the Comprehensive School Health Model as described by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) at the link below. It is documented in both research and practice that school nurses positively impact student achievement.
Many stakeholders in the school setting and the community are unaware of the depth of the role of the school nurse. The New York Statewide School Health Services Center has developed a presentation and companion brochure that highlight the role and significance of the school nurse in New York's schools. The presentation and brochure are available at the links below.
School nurses need to take every opportunity to promote their role in the school to maximize their effectiveness as a member of the school team. Please use the presentation and brochure as tools to continue to build partnerships in your school community to carry on your critical work of caring for New York's children and youth in our schools.
